Blaine’s food worth the trip
By Stephanie Edwards
Some restaurant’s food impresses you to the point that you remember it for years to come. That has been my experience with Blaine’s Grill & Bar in Gatlinburg.
I sampled some of the restaurant’s food at a special event in
downtown Gatlinburg, and even though I didn’t eat a full meal, I
was so impressed by the quality of what I tasted that I have been dying
to experience all that Blaine‘s has to offer.I finally had the opportunity to sit down for a meal on the restaurant’s outdoor balcony that overlooks the city’s quaint downtown area, with the mountains serving as a backdrop.
We were promptly welcomed and served glasses of iced tea. We began looking over the menu, and truthfully, I had a hard time deciding between the ribs and the many other entrée options.
I did, however, know that I wanted to order the spinach dip because that was one of the appetizer items I had sampled in the past.
I ended up selecting the Mountain Grille — a grilled chicken breast topped with barbeque sauce, bacon and Monterey Jack cheese — with a side of mashed potatoes.
The spinach dip was served in a bread bowl, along with chunks of sourdough bread and tortilla chips for dipping. And my memory of this dip was absolutely correct. The dip was slightly spicy, very cheesy and had just the right amount of spinach. My taste buds were delighted that my memory had served them so well.
The Mountain Grille was equally as divine. The barbeque sauce was both sweet and spicy, which blended very well with the Monterrey Jack and bacon.
My husband ordered a bowl of chili, that was possibly the best chili I have ever eaten. In my opinion, you should be able to eat chili with a fork if you want, and Blaine’s definitely met my standards.
I only have one regret about our meal at Blaine’s — that we didn’t try the Mudd Cake, which is a large slab of chocolate fudge cake, covered with ice cream, hot fudge, caramel and whipped cream.
I saw a server bring a dish filled to the brim with this chocoholic’s dream dish, but we were way too full to even consider eating another bite of food.
Needless to say, I plan on heading back to Blaine’s next time I am in Gatlinburg.
Blaine’s is located at traffic light #8 on the Parkway.
